Strawberry and Cream Napoleon Recipe

The delicious dessert known as a Strawberry and Cream Napoleon is of French origin and is also known as mille-fueille, or a thousand leaves. It consists of puff pastry cooked and cut into squares, with layers of fresh cream and strawberries and is topped with powdered sugar and more fresh strawberries. There are also other versions that are savory, but today I am excited to share this sweet Strawberry and Cream Napoleon recipe. It is so easy to make, and your guests will all be happily surprised when you serve them this.

The presentation looks very sophisticated and elegant, but it is very easy to make, especially if you already have ready to use puff pastry on hand. I found it in a local grocery store in the frozen foods section next to the pie crusts, but you can also check it outhere.

Ive been on a mostly healthy kick for a while but every now and then I enjoy indulging in a tasty sweet treat, especially when it involves fresh strawberries and vanilla pudding. But come to think of it, the only evil sweet treats Ive indulged in lately is a big ole slice of cheesecake and some MMs. And they were both well worth it. The day I ate that big ole slice of cheesecake, I told myself its a good thing youve been eating fairly low carb foods for the past week.

I said oh I want to make a sweet treat. My freezer replied theres a neglected box of puff pastry weighing me down inside, hint hint. So I saved my freezer from the agony of being weighed down by a box of puff pastry, grabbed that box of puff pastry and then BOOM, theres a napoleon recipe glaring at me. I love it when my food talks to me translated: I love it when food packages give me recipes to try.

I pretty much followed the recipe to a T but I got a little creative and added some cream cheese to the mix to make it sorta cheesecake-esque. Keyword: a little creative. I dont know how creative throwing cream cheese into a recipe is but I felt creative at the moment and thats what counts, right?

This year Im hoping to get enough strawberries from our backyard garden to make this with homegrown strawberries. I think Ill have to fight my boys to get enough berries saved upthey usually dont even make it to the house uneaten. Ill report back on that later in the season.

Store bought puff pastry sheets are usually plant-based but check ingredient list before buying to be sure. I usually use Pepperidge Farm Puff Pastry Sheets, since I can get them in almost every grocerystore nearby. As mentioned above you can also make your own puff pastry and use that of course.

Preheat the oven to 375. Line a large baking sheet with parchment paper. On a lightly floured work surface, roll out the puff pastry to a 12-by-6-inch rectangle. Trim the pastry into 4 neat rectangles, 6-by-3 inches each. Cut each rectangle into 3 equal pieces and transfer them to the prepared baking sheet. Chill for 10 minutes. Poke each piece 3 times with a fork. Cover the pastry with parchment paper and top with another baking sheet to prevent the pastry from puffing. Bake for about 35 minutes, until the pastry is deep golden and crisp. Remove the top baking sheet and parchment and let the pastry pieces cool completely.

Usually good prices on strawberries are at the beginning of the summer. However, there mustve been a bumper crop of them this year because most stores are still featuring them for less than 2 a pound.
